Google Webmaster Tools – An overlooked resource
Love them or hate them Google is the big fish in the search engines. A high ranking in the Google search engine results can be a great boon to getting traffic to your blog.
There is a lot more to it than just the search engine.
Two tools that they provide that you really need to be using are Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools.
Analytics will help you find out exactly what traffic you are getting and how they find you. This is a topic that is written up often here and in other places.
Often though we overlook the webmaster tools. Taking the time to set your blog up here can be quite helpful. Webmaster Tools will allow you to see how Google sees your blog.
You can see if they are having a problem crawling your site. You can see what they think your blog is about.
It is easy to get set up and the information will help you improve your blog. Just click on add site and submit your url.

If the site is already set up with Google Analytics (and it should be) then you are set up. Now take the time to submit your sitemap. This way you will make sure that Google is reading it properly.
Click on the more link under site maps.

Then you need top resubmit it. Just check the box and click resubmit.

Stop back the next day to make sure that it is working.
Analytics is great but there is even more you can get from using Webmaster Tools so take the few minutes to add it and then stop weekly to see exactly how Google sees your site.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed. Leave them below.
