First of many new changes

change1

Change is inevitable. Even more so online then off line.

Just like the leaves change each fall so do things change online.

This week I decided to make a change here. Now it is in the testing stage and the results will need to be tracked but I have started with this step.

Added a new plugin yesterday that lets me add the little floater to the left and add in various social media items.

Did it to test it for a couple of reasons.

  1. I like the look when I visit other blogs.
  2. It changes one plugin to replace a few.

My first hope is that it will allow more people to interact with me on places like Twitter, Facebook, Buzz and others because it is there when you decide that you like what I am writing and want to share it.

Unlike what was there before some were at the top of the post and others at the bottom, If I made an impression (And I hope I do at least some of the time) you do not need to scroll up or down to Tweet it, like it on Facebook, etc.

Plus each plugin you use slows things down. It is one of the trade offs you make for more functionality. If I can use one plugin instead of 4 or 5 to accomplish the same thing the hope is that it will speed things up a bit.

Ultimately though it is whether it gets people to interact here that matters the most and that is what I will be watching.

I know I have not said what the plugin is yet. Needed to at least get you to read to the end didn’t I?

It is called Sharebar and it is a free plugin and you can add it through your dashboard by just searching for sharebar.

Now will it stay? It really depends on what you the reader like. If it gets used more absolutely but if the interaction goes down it will disappear.

Doesn’t that make you feel powerful? You decide through your actions what stays and goes here. Let me know.

Shutting off comments after time – good or bad?

comments

This morning when I got up and was checking Twitter I found this question.

comment question

A good question and I replied to Joe but it brings up some other questions. Should you shut off questions after time?

Not an easy question to answer and the answer I come up with is it depends. Don’t you just love when I come up with these no answer answers.

I have done both.

Shutting off comments after a week or two can be very helpful in fighting spam and that is why I originally started doing that on some of my blogs.

It is easy to do. Go into settings – discussion. You then have the option to limit how long comments will be open.

eliminate-old-comments

Now of late, I rarely do that.

There is a reason though for my change of heart on that topic.

The reason is that I started using a plugin called Tweet Old Post. If I am going to send traffic to older posts it makes sense to allow people to comment on that content. Shutting off the comments and then tweeting them does not make sense to me.

So shutting off comments after a time period can be a good thing to stop spam comments but can be a detriment if you are promoting your older content and people can not comment on it.

That is my thought, what is yours?

WP Twin is saving me time

Have been loving the new cloner from Jason Fladlien and Wilson Mattos called WP Twin. It has made it so much faster for me to install and tweak my blogs.

This has made a chance for you to save too.

See for over 3 years I have charged $120 to install and tweak out a WordPress blog for my customers. Now my time to do this especially the tweaks that I add has gone down considerably so I am testing a new pricing for this service. I am cutting it by 33% to just $80.

Quite truthfully with the extras I provide for my install customers such as the dashboard walk through, adding optin forms and other tweaks to their theme to personalize them this may not last long.

If you have been thinking about hiring me you can save $40 by ordering today and putting my team to work for you.

Get your blog installed.

The other choice if you are planning to install multiple blogs is to grab WP Twin from this link and then I will give you my install clone and my copy of the sales letter bonus they offer with the Fantastico hardening already done for you. Just send in a support ticket with your receipt.

Either way if you are looking to get a new blog installed properly now is an excellent time to take advantage of which ever of these two resources best fits you.

Get WP Twin with my bonus.

Get your blog installed for you.

A Different Blogging Tactic

Have been watching my bud Alex Syseof and saw that he has started a new very specific blog. Now Alex is someone that when he does new things I pay attention.

First met Alex a couple years ago at JV Alert in Philly. He and his partner created Expert WordPress to quickly install SEO friendly and secure WordPress blogs.

When I looked at his new blog I thought he had a new product coming out. It looked to me like he was in the midst of a product launch.

I talked to him this morning on Skype and found out it was for a launch but as an affiliate not for his product. I will be following what he does with this and how he does it and recommend you do too.

Now I am not familiar with the product that is coming out but the techniques he is using seem to be worth checking out.

Last week he ran a comment contest and this week you have the chance to win one of two products from him by linking to the blog or any number of other ways using Twitter and Facebook.

Now I already own the products he is giving away but I am linking to it because you should watch how he is doing this. I asked him not to add me into the draw.

So check out his post on Win $147 on CB Cash Generator and check out and follow what else comes down the line with this. It will be worth following for other ways to use blogs for your marketing.

Check it out and leave your comments below on what you think of what he is doing below.

Blog 3 Pack – Special Dog Days Of Summer Sale

3pack

Well we are stuck in the dog days of summer here in the coal region of PA.

The weather is hot, the humidity is high and it is generally just yucky.

Yeah yucky one of those technical type words. (Remember the Mr Yuck stickers a few years ago.)

So I decided to take advantage of that and bring back a special offer that I have not offered since last November.

Blog 3 Pack

Last year I did a series of 3 calls on blogging that became products covering the biggest questions that come up from readers time and
time again.

They were recorded, transcribed and packaged with the workbooks that were created for the teleclasses.

I have packaged all 3 together for a special Dog Days Of Summer special offer.

This will only be available until Monday August 9th at 8 am.

Blog 3 Pack

Check them out before the special goes back in the vault.

You can grab 2 of the 3 every day but they would cost you more than the 3 pack and the third is not available anywhere else.

This will disappear after Monday at 8 am so check it out today before it goes away.

3 Ways To Get More Results From Your Blog

Yesterday was the start of a new month and I discussed knowing what is working and what is not. Below are 3 ways you can get started on improving your results for next month whether you are doing well or poorly.

Create Content Consistently

Now there is no set time table that works for everyone. My testing has shown that consistent new content seems to help me increase traffic more than sheer quantity. At least for the long term.

Set up a schedule and keep to it. Does not matter whether it is daily or weekly or in between the key is to be consistent over a longer time frame. This will take a bit for the results to be seen but over 2 months or more it does have a nice effect.

Interact With Others

Get involved in conversations. Blog commenting, interacting in related forums, and interacting with the people that comment on your blog.

The more that you are taking part in these conversations the more likely you are to see an increase in your results.

Make sure that you are adding value to these conversations.

Maximize Your Content

Creating content is hard work. Maximize the effort by repurposing it. Adapt your blog post to an article you can submit to the directories.

Make it into a podcast, a video or both. You already did the hard part so the more ways you can use it to drive traffic the better. I cover this in detail in the Sunday Night Cash Plan.

So decide to be consistent in what you do and make sure that your results increase each month.

I am a firm believer in using blogs and you will hear a lot of people tell you that you need a blog but is a blog for you? It probably is something you should have (really no probably you should) but not all will benefit. Not because you should no have a blog but because of you. Here are 3 questions to ask before deciding if you should create a blog.

1. Are you looking for immediate results or are you patient enough to grow gradually?

Blogging takes a bit to gather traction. If you think the idea is to set up a blog and add some content and generate leads and sales I have a surprise for you. It takes time and consistent effort to create a worthwhile blog. So if immediate results are your goal and you have no patience blogging is not for you.

2. Can you maintain consistency?

The more often you post the better but consistency is more important. Yes posting every day or even more than once a day will be better. Posting 3 times a day for a week though and then once every three to six months will not.

You need to post regularly whether it is daily or weekly but you need to be consistent. If you can not do this then maybe a blog is not for you.

3. Will you spend the time to track your results and tweak what you are doing?

Successful blogs require you to track what is working. Everything you do will not work every time. If you do not or are not willing to keep track of what works the odds will be against your success.

Now if you can answer yes to these 3 questions you are well on your way to being a successful blogger. Now just go do it. You will be happy you did.
