off tracks

Just two weeks into the new year and already I have come partially off track. At least here I have.

Not surprising and there are numerous reasons for it but they don’t matter. You either do the things to stay on track or you don’t. It really does not matter why you have not.

If you have come off the tracks you laid out for the new year you probably have some very legitimate reasons too.

After all life happens and even the best laid plans can go awry.

The key is to get back on track. This has been a difficult week and because of that I have not posted here since Sunday and that was done before the week end so it has been a week since I added content here regardless of when it actually posted.

Even though Newton’s Law Of Motion..

Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.

Apples to physical objects I strongly believe that it applies to blogging too. You need to get back in motion to get back on track.

It is not like me, but I have found it hard to sit down and write. You have those days but eventually you have to be like Nike and Just Do It!

That is what today is. The day to just get it done and start writing.

Force yourself to write and don’t edit yourself. When I find that I start putting things off the best way for me is to just sit down and write and just write. Nothing else.

No editing.

No spell checking.

No grammar checking.

Then walk away. There are sometimes that readers think that I do that all the time anyway ;)

In my case I went and made some breakfast. An omelet with pork roll and cheese and a bagel. Sat down and had a leisurely breakfast and only then did I come back and look at what I had written. It was not pretty to say the least.

Next I edited and did some rewriting and finally I have a decent blog post. The key is to make it good enough when you are trying to get back in the flow. Not great (although we all strive for that) but good enough.

I know that now I am back to writing mode and have given myself permission to be just good enough that I will get back on track.

When you have skipped what you know you should be doing it is natural to want to get back with a bang. Time to create the ultimate great post instead of just starting to write. Try to do that and instead of missing a couple days all of a sudden you have missed a couple weeks and it gets harder and harder to just get started.

If you have gotten off track, today is the day to just write. Try it and you will soon be back on track and glad that you did.

Do you have any tricks you use to get back on track? Leave a comment and share with others.
