Is your blog a community?

Today was kielbasa day here in the coal region. For us it is not Thanksgiving without getting your kielbasy to have with Thanksgiving dinner. For us that means we go to Kowolanek’s to get our kielbasy.
Now going there is a trip unto itself. There is always a line even when it is not a holiday but you come in the door and they are playing the Kielbasy Heaven song. (You can even buy the cd there to take home if you want.)
The thing is that it is a special atmosphere that you look forward to when you go there. There is a spirit of community whether you are a customer or a worker. Despite there always being a line it is quite enjoyable to go there and make your purchases.
They have truly created a community atmosphere. Lots of fun and interaction.
You should be doing the same thing with your blog. Create an atmosphere where people want to interact. Make it fun and interactive and people will return.
Think about what you can do to make your blog more interactive. Create the fun atmosphere and help to foster the community and it will increase your traffic.
Pay attention to successful businesses that you frequent and see what they have done that draws you back. Ask yourself what you can do to make your site a must visit.
How many different ways can you come up? Leave your comments and let me know.

Hey Mike,
You always manage to cover so much (serious) stuff in a relative small post.
Being from the Netherlands, Thanksgiving doesn’t have the same meaning for me. Even when I lived in Florida for me the “Day after Thanksgiving” was the start of the Christmas Season… the Christmas stuff got onto the shelves… Here in Btazil the shelves were filled late October with Xmas decoration (including in the Wallmart I have here around the corner, no turkeys in sight..). Many houses, gardens are already decorated. As of December 1st, no more decorations to buy, then the “food stuff” takes over….

Mike,
Enjoyed the read. Do you use Meetups to help create community?
I am finding Meetups to be a another great source for developing community.
Kind Regards

The Kielbasa sounds great. When I think of a butcher shop I remember my Uncle’s in St Cloud Minnesota years ago, where he always grated customers with a hearty hello. The polish sausage was his specialty.
When I think of a butcher shop today, I think of variety, freshness and service. So I guess that’s what we need to provide in our blogs as well.

Never heard of kielbasa with Thanksgiving dinner. And my Mom’s family is 110% Slovak. I do love the stuff, though.
About a blog being a community…I never really though of blogs that way. I mean, aside from commenting to the blogger, I’ve never seen much interaction.
How could it be done?
