Word of the Decade – Google
Think Google has not become a major piece of the culture? According to the American Dialect Society Google as in Google it has been listed as the word of the decade.
Tweet has been listed as the word of 2009. Social media and the online world has definitely become a major part of the mainstream. After all you see Twitter every where.
I am surprised that blog did not make word of the decade but then that may be bit of personal bias.
Either way you can see that more and more online terms are getting into the main stream dialect. Are you taking advantage of that trend in your business?

Not hard to see Google would beat blog as the top term, since most people coming online are searching for something, but only a smaller percentage of them are building an online presence. But you point on the growing influence of blogs and social media is spot on – in fact the combination of a blog, Twitter, articles, podcasts and videos is so strong now that a site can be busy and profitable without search engine listings! But that’s no reson to turn down additional free traffic from them…

What was the word of the previous decade – “internet” ? Google started in the previous decade too but I guess Doug is right.
Just for fun I Googled Google and got 2,070, 000, 000 pages and then Googled Blog and got 2,430,000, 000 pages so you have a kind of vindication there Mike.
And if you think that I should get out more…OK, OK I’m going!

Your right, over the past decade, but really in the past few years, knowledge and the use of the internet has taken off so much. It’s not surprising to see that Google has become a household word.
Now’s the time get your site’s online, since so much more traffic is starting to flow.

I guess I agree that Google ranks at the top. I like you hear Twitter everywhere, but Facebook has to be in there somewhere also.

Even when my wife uses Bing, she says she Googled for info. It’s becoming a generic term in some ways. They will want to watch that.
