WordPress 2.8.1 beta 2 – Are you a plugin author?
Just downloaded the latest beta version of WordPress for the new upgrade for the 2.8 version. WordPress is “begging” for plugin authors to check their plugins on this. From their post…
We especially suggest, recommend, and beg that plugin developers test their plugins against beta 2 and let us know of any issues. Notable fixes in beta 2:
* Translation of role names fixed
* wp_page_menu() defaults to sorting by the user specified menu order rather than the page title
* Upload error messages are now correctly reported
* Autosave error experienced by some IE users is fixed
* Styling glitch in the plugin editor fixed
* SSH2 filesystem requirements updated
* Switched back to curl as the default transport
* Updated the translation library to avoid a problem with mbstring.func_overload
Now so far all the plugins I normally use seem to be working fine but for any of you that have created plugins take the time to test them with the new beta release. This way you will save your self some grief from people that have problems and provide more value to your customers.
Looks like this is very close to being a full release and I will keep you updated.

The new releases just keep on coming. I’m usually slow to upgrade, I like to wait for experts like you to review new releases and then upgrade. Is it necessary to keep upgrading with every release? It seems that there a new one every month now

Mike,
Thanks for the update. Although I am not a plugin author, I do use several of them and will be on the lookout for any that stop working after the upgrade.
Thanks for doing the research for us, it’s appreciated.

Thanks for the update on WordPress. I am not a plugin developer but I appreciate your updates and hope the the plugin developers will head the advice to keep their plugins update. It is great to just update inside of WordPress itself.

Thanks for the info Mike. I’m not a plug-in author, but like you I have many blogs using many different plug-ins, so I will have to keep a watch to see if they all continue to work ok with the update.

Not much to say about todays post Mike, but a question as to the code that shows up after everyone’s reply on your sites. I presume its comment luv since the heart is after it. It’s no big deal, but seems to take away from the overall neatness of your blog.

I also am not a plugin developer but I will be getting this message out to those that are. It will save most of us a lot of grief wondering why our plugins do not work. Thanks for keeping a watch on it and Will be looking to see if there is anything you report as not working.

Not sure why, but very common plugins are almost daily updated to make them right. I certainly don’t like to see those reply links, looks ugly but I suppose we need to wait for another update…

It’s maddening enough for us as users to have a new WP update every other week these days – can you imagine the grief it causes the poor plug-in authors? Most try to provide free helpful scripts for nothing…
If WP keeps this up, programmers will either give up on them due to the time this takes or have to start charging for their plugins, and WP will have killed a lot of the reason for using their blog software.
After 12 years as a full-time online marketer I’ve seen a number of resources fall from grace due to stupid actions on their part – at this rate WP will create the need for a new, more organized competitor to bring out their own blogging software for the masses!
In the meantime, for those plugins you use and don’t want to live without, hit the donate button – the creators won’t keep up with the updates if it takes a lot of time and they aren’t making anything for all the time they invest. Protect yourself by seeing they make at least some returns for helping us all so much!
