WordPress 3.0 Install Notes
Wanted to cover a few of the differences in installing the new 3.0 version. I have it running on the bate blog but wanted to do a fresh install on a test site. I also converted that test site to a multi user blog and will discuss that at a later time if there is interest.
Now as regular readers are well aware I am not a fan of using Fantastico to install your blog for a variety of reasons not the least being that most of the blogs I have fixed from being hacked were installed that way.
The installation is quite normal until you run the initial install command. Then the screen to set your blog up come up and is quite different.

Instead of just the site title (1) and email (4) to be filled in there are some extra boxes. The default for your user name (2) still comes up admin but you now have the chance to change the default user name.
You can then set the password (3) that you want the blog to have. Now if you leave it blank the script will create your password. That is my preference because it creates a hard to break password and will help you protect your blog.
If you allow the blog to create the password once you log in you will see a note that you are using the default password. I prefer to keep it so I click the don’t tell me again link or you can change the password at that point.
If you do change the password at the least make sure you are using a combination of lower and upper case letters and numbers. Make it hard for the cretins that want to find a way in to your blog.
Look for more on WordPress 3.0 as the release gets closer.
