Adding a signature to your post
Today’s question:
Hey Mike! I noticed that some bloggers include a link to an opt via e-mail or RSS at the end of their posts – sort of as a constant reminder to your reader to subscribe to your list – With WordPress, is there a way to include a signature at the end of posts with a link to your opt in – rather than manually typing in the same line asking for an opt in at the end of each post?
Good question today. I did a quick search and came up with one plugin that will allow you to add a signature. Found one but it has some drawbacks for some.
-
Not updated in over a year
-
Not easy to install for new people
-
Needs token to make it work
Would not recommend it because of the above unless you are comfortable with renaming things and understand adding a token into your post.
For me if you are that comfortable you can just tweak the theme and add your signature in there. On this blog I use an image to remind people to subscribe that is hard coded into the theme. The banner at the bottom with my resources is also hard coded into the theme.
If you are comfortable with the downsides I mentioned do a quick search and you can find a plugin or just add what you want into the theme code directly.
If you are going to do that remember to pull a copy of the code before you start just in case you make a mistake. Not that I would know from experience
.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

I like the concept of a signature at the end of posts. I too would be apprehensive of adding an un-updated plugin. Tweaking themes is a bit time consuming for me (I’m just a hack, no expert here). When it becomes important enough for me, I will tackle this task.

@Tony -
That is why I did not link to the plugin. If I thought most readers could easily use it and it was supported (although it does work on 2.6 I did test it) but 2.7 will be here soon and I won’t promote plugins that don’t provide support.

Thanks Mike – I haven’t fiddled with the theme code in a while – Will have to look into plugging it directly into the theme – for some reason this scares me, haha

Too bad there was not an up to date plugin, sounds useful.
