Adding Blog To Existing Website
Today’s question is one that comes up frequently. Often people have other sites that they have received as part of other business models and want to add a blog. There are certain things that you will need.
As always your questions are appreciated and if you leave them in the comments below they may end up being the topic for a later blog post.
Hi Mike: I like following your site. I have a question. The website I listed above was set up as part of my Google Ad Sense venture. This site is also hosted with its unique name servers. Can this same website be used for setting up a blog? And what about hosting?
Without knowing what the hosting account has and what services your current site is using it is an impossible question to answer.
First your need a host that supports php and has an available MySQL data base.
Here are the requirements you need from the WordPress Codex.
WordPress server requirements for Version 2.9, 3.0:
- PHP version 4.3 or greater
- MySQL version 4.1.2 or greater
- (Optional) Apache mod_rewrite module (for clean URIs known as Permalinks)
If your current host meets those requirements you can add a blog on the same host.
Now you can always get a new host and separate domain. If you are looking for blog hosting two of my favorites are Zoot Host (where this blog is hosted) or Host Gator where I have a few other blogs.
Your questions and comments are welcomed so talk to me below.
