How do I do a podcast?

By Mike | March 29, 2008

WordPress Made EAsy

Today’s question:

I enjoyed your squidoo podcast with Bob. How to do this?

That podcast was a teleseminar that Bob and I did. The service I was using then is free and they record it for you . You can get an account at The Basemenet Ventures.

I then downloaded the mp3 from them of the recording and uploaded it to my blog. I use the Pod Press plugin to create the buttons and to be able to allow it to play on the site or be downloaded. Created the page and added the media file and now it is available.

If you are going to do a podcast like I do most days here you don’t need to use a conference line. If you have a microphone and an audio editor you can record your own mp3. I use a free program from SourceForge called Audacity.

To make the podcast today here is what I do. Open Audacity and import my intro music. Push the record button and start talking. If I make a mistake I can just edit it with Audactity and once I am happy with the recording I just export it as an mp3. Then I will ftp the file up to the upload folder of this blog. Write my post and then click the add media file button and add the info for this podcast and then publish the post.

So easy even this Old Bald Guy can do it.

Also, a quick note - the next free WordPress Q and A Call will be April 1st. You can click on the link and leave your questions now then stop back on Tuesday for the answers.

As always your comments and quesstions are welcomed.

OK I followed your instruction except when I went to save and export Mp3 for Audacity, it asked for a Lame File..and that turned into a real mess. Is there an easy way.

    Thanks for your help…
    you are always an inspiration

The one thing forgotten because I have used Audacity for years now. Yes you need to download the lame.dll file which is available fron the same place as you downloaded Audacity.

The first time you export to mp3 it will ask for the location of that file and after that it will never ask you again.
