How do you enable track backing on your blog?
By Mike | December 17, 2007

This question comes from one of my monthly Question and Answer sessions.
This answer will be specific to WordPress blogs because different platforms handle this in different ways.
With WordPress it is quite easy to do.
1. Log in to your dashboard.
2. Click options - discussion
3. The second check box down will say
“Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.) ”
Make sure that is checked and click update.
That is all that it will take to enable trackbacks on your blog and is set to accept by default.
As always your questions and comments are appreciated.

Mike,
I have a self-hosted WordPress blog. I logged into my Dashboard, but I don’t see “Discussions”.
I seem to remember enabling trackbacking somewhere else, but can’t find it now. I just wanted to double-check & make sure I had enabled this feature.
I appreciate your tips. Keep up the great work.

Hi Lee
I left options - discussion out instead of just discussion. I have corrected the post.
Thanks for catching that.

Hi Mike,
I understand how to allow a trackback on my blog, as you describe above. However, how do I post a trackback?
Say I like a post that you make and I want to trackback to that post?
I noticed in the Write page, there is a space called Trackback. What do I put in that space? Is that the best way to trackback to your post?
Thanks,
Charles

There are two ways to trackback. You can add the link directly in the post as uou are quoting (my preferred way) or add the link in the trackback slot you referred to.
