How soon should you monetize your blog
Monetizing your blog is what we all are looking to do. This question came in and here is my view.
I have a burning question:
I am seeing a difference of opinion among internet marketers (not necessarily blackhat) as to when you should add monetization to a niche blog (or website). Some say not to put Adsense or other such things on for at least 1 mo. so that you won’t risk getting in the Google sandbox for 6 mo. (or forever) and others (esp. the ones who write/sell autoblog/auto website software etc) say that you can put up niche websites/blogs and make money right away by monetizing. I have some domain names that I would rather not lose to the Google sandbox. Do you have an opinion on whether you can/should monetize right away (if so, how) or should you wait some period of time? 1 month?
Thank you for your help. I have always found your advice to be right on.
I have seen the same discussions but have not found that to be a problem when using just Adsense. I always start with just Adsense until I start building traffic. Doing that I have been able to get some search engine traffic almost immediately.
Not huge amounts to get started but as more content is added and the back links start to build the traffic increases. Then I will add other monetization methods.
Now I have had problems when I was aggressively bookmarking new sites and avoid that now. I do bookmark some of the posts but found that at least in my experience that a lot of bookmarks quickly has sent me to the sand box.
Another thing that I personally do is drip in the content. Throwing up 100 pages on a new site at once has had the same effect at times but never figured out if there was a cutoff number that caused that.
As most of my sites use WordPress it is easy to put all the content up and then have it get published over time.
Now all of that comes from my experience and I would love to hear what your experiences have been.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

Lots of blogging beginners ask this question and it puzzles me why anyone is nervous of offending Google with adsense when google operate adsense!!
google are the biggest advertising agency in the world – why would they worry about monetisation?
How much do they make a year -$6 Billion ?
More?

Great response, Mike – it just highlights another part of how complicated SEO has become since Google took the primary SE position. In our operations, Teri & I don’t worry about being in or out of the sandbox, figuring Google will do what Google wants, no matter what we do or don’t have for advertising.
Instead we use the same system & plugins as yourself to be sure the site is optimized, then count on Web 2.0 sites, social media sites, video and article directories for our traffic, especially initially.
That way when Google does decide to pay attention to the site everything is done as they say they want it to be, but the traffic to it has already been building all along.

Interesting to think that Google would care that you monetize your blog. Adsense is from Google so why would they care if you use adsense? That makes them money. I think its best to just build your blog and take Doug’s approach.
