Niche Review site question

Today’s question:
I have a question regarding setting up a niche review blog along with a niche review site.
Would you recommend setting them up on separate domains or does it make sense to have the review site on http://www.MyReviewSiteDomain.com and put the blog on http://www.MyReviewSiteDomain.com/blog?
What are the pros and cons of those two options?
Thanks!
Nothing wrong with using the same domain for both a website and blog. Would probably rename the folder from blog to a keyword if I were going to install the blog there. A mistake I made a few years ago when starting this blog and too much trouble to correct at this point.
My question would be why do two sites?
A properly optimized blog would do better in the serps and would you be covering different topics in the two sites. That could cause some trouble with duplicate content.
Personally I would use just a blog with the proper plugins and tweaking to be SEO friendly and a good theme (like the Review Blog Theme).
Course I may be a bit biased
.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

hi Mike,
Thanks so much for those valuable comments.
I found that what you have just said is correct for me too.
I loaded my very first blog straight onto the root of my domain, then found it created quite a few problems for me when trying to do other things, like affiliate marketing etc.
Although I don’t often say anything, I do follow the info you genuine fellows teach in your blogs etc.
to me, as an older person, (almost 71) it helps so much. That is why my domain is oriented to pensioners and technically challenged folk.
We get left out of so much. The younger ones seems to think we don’t need to know anything about computers. What a huge market they are leaving on the plate I believe.
Anyway, thanks again Mike, and keep u[p the great work.
I cetrainly appreciate it.

Thanks for the tips Mike. That “Review Blog Theme” looks good! Is that your product?
And whats a ’serp?’

Think you misunderstood what I was saying. Had nothing to do with a blog in the root but a blog being in a blog folder. Much better if it is in a folder at all to be a keyword folder.
Example - If I have a site about cats have the blog in a folder called cat-training using a word I want to rank for.

That’s Alex and Dmitriy’s review product, i believe Mike does a lot with Alex and vise a verse, you’ll find it’s a small community. And, the better guy’s work together, lot’s.
SERP’s “Short for search engine results page” it has to do with SEO. Mike like other top notch blogger’s has you on the plug-in “all in one SEO” or whatever the name is.
About the set-up of a review site(s) When the very first review sites started to get hot, there was no easy script for a set-up of a review blog (EASY). I know some guy’s could do it.
If you wanted one, you both a PLR product or membership.
So, some may end up with more options. A website. In that case it may be a good idea to have a review blog on a different domain. Say, even your own name. If you own it already it’s natural. http://www.yourname.com/review or whatever niche keyword you want to optimize for?
This is a good way to use LSI, (sharing/linking to your own blog or sites). It’s even better on a different host/server. Picture a loop. Not back and forth.
Anyway, I’m sure I opened up a can of worms here.
But, that should help a bit, and Mike has the thing’s you may or may not need at this time.
About older, in most cases it only means slower, then again you can make up for that with time.
If you ever need to fined out something online and you need to know right away, just google it.
Good post Mike thanks,
Eric
