Plugin conflicts – How to resolve them
Todays question:
Mike is there any rule on Word Press Plugins that conflict? I was told that using prototype, and another plugin with jQuery, that these javascript libraries don’t like to work together.
I have had instances where plugins disable other plugins on Word Press.
Boy is this ever a problem especially with some of the newer hooks using jQuery and I wish there was an easy answer. Usually it is because of a variety of things and can be really frustrating too.
The other problem can be the theme causing problems. That is when it can get really frustrating. One of my favorite plugins – Comment Luv – has trouble with certain themes. The author who is a good programmer has not been able to find out why.
Now as I don’t program and even the programmers I know have trouble with this here is the key.
Add the plugins one at a time and test them. When you find conflicts decide which one is more important for you and keep that one.
Then go visit my favorite site – Google – and see if there are alternative plugins that will do what you wanted the one that caused the problem. On more than one occasion I have found alternatives that can and do work well together.
You do need to check both plugins for alternatives and in most cases you will be able to find two that will work together.
Not a definitive answer but what I do and have had to compromise at times but overall get the results I am looking for.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.
