Using a Mac with WordPress

Today’s question:
Plugins, RSS feeds, autoresponders, how do I get this stuff through C panel on a Mac.
Now all of this will be second hand. I have never used a Mac but I am considering one for my next computer because you can now run there os and xp on the new ones.
I did some checking with some friends that do use Macs though. The big problem is that Macs sometimes add some files when using FTP. The best recommendation I have gotten was to use Filezilla for Mac as your FTP client.
This seems to solve most of the problems with the excess code.
To add your plugins the FTP will be the same – place them in wp-content/plugins/ and then turn them on through the dashboard. I would not use Cpanel to upload these whether or not I was using a Mac or a PC.
Then you can use the dashboard to adjust your blog to your liking.
This is one question though where I am going to solicit the support of my readers if you use a Mac and have any other tips your input would be greatly appreciated.
As always questions and comments are welcomed.

thanks for the useful advise. I am using Fetch now for FTP but the free period will be over soon so I am looking forward to trying out Filezilla.
What you say about Cpanel is interesting. I had a devil of a time uploading a new template to lunar pages but finally got it.
It was frustrating because I had never used FTP before and I had no clue about how Cpanel icons work.
The host tutorials feature windows screenshots and seem antideluvian. Google videos are much better.
Anyway I am thinking of shelling out for Jenkins Cpanel vids because he first came to my attention through your podcast about Squidoo.
I have not actually kicked off my blog yet because I am not sure of the “attractiveness” of my niche/how squidooizable it is, not to mention plug in knowledge and/or Keyword Research.
It’s good to see that you have made so much progress with your WP blog.

Hope you got my last comment….WordPress told me that it looks like you’ve already said that…which I hadn’t.
Thanks for the info on Filezilla and for turning me onto Jenkins and Squidoo potential.

Hi Mike,
I’ve been using Macs since two weeks before they were introduced in 1984 and I manage many sites with no problem.
I do most of my text editing with TextWrangler (and BBedit Pro when I have more demanding needs).
I’ve been using Interarchy for all my FTP needs for years with no problems.
I’ll echo your comments about using Cpanel for uploading, but I sometimes use it for a quick edit of a file.
TextWrangler is a free program from BareBones, who also created BBedit years ago.

I used BBedit for years when I was a software developer and it has more powerful features that most people don’t need.
Interarchy has changed hands within the last few years, but I’m still using version 5 with no problems. Why upgrade if there’s no reason?
Act on your dream!
