[Sunday Rant] A Pox On All Social Network Spammers

Well it is Sunday and a gorgeous day here in the Coal Region. Not the best background for starting a rant. The weather obviously would not set me off but this week in the various social networks certainly has.

Now I don’t have a problem with people sharing information with me through social networks but recently there have been a number of things coming to me that piss me off.

Seems it is not just one network either. Goes across multiple networks.

On Facebook it is all the invitations to the free products. Could be a PS3, an Ipad or various gift cards.

Come on people if you are going to invite me to something it is you I am interested in. If you are going to hold a webinar and want to let me know fine. Started a new fan page great.

You create your own group and want to invite me fine but this week alone I got 14 different free offers that are basically someone setting up their CPA offers. CPA lead generation pages are not how I want to interact with you.

Now it is not only Facebook but all of sudden on Twitter too. It seems the latest spammy thing is to try to hijack my timeline. You know the people who send a reply to numerous people that you may or may not even be following them to get their link in your time line.

I work hard to provide quality resources to my followers and do not appreciate you trying to put your crap and most of it is truly crap in my time line. If you are putting out quality information and I am following you and like it I will spread it by retweeting it. Let me choose if I want to share things with my followers. I am the editor of that not you.

Even new resources like IMFaceplate. If you are going to write on my face as they call it do it to interact with me. Invite me to check out your article, comment on the articles or videos I have put there.

Don’t drop in to leave your damn affiliate link for some crap program that will make me rich that I would not recommend in a thousand years. Interact with me.

Social networks are for interacting but not for spamming. I have no problem with people marketing there if I have decided to follow you. The number of people working to hijack my space to get your message to those followers that I have worked to compile by offering value to them is growing and has totally pissed me off.

If you are offering value to me I will want to interact with you and will be interested in your message.

Use these things the right way and stop with the spammy crap.

Learn to use these sites appropriately and you might find that instead of ranting about your tactics I may become a huge fan and help you spread your message. If you are providing quality information I can almost guarantee it.
