Sunday Rant – Why not give first instead of spam

Taking a break from answering questions because it is Sunday so it is time for a rant. You can leave questions in the comments though and they will get added to the mind map for future blog posts here.
A new social site opened last week called IMfaceplate. It is a really neat place with a lot of cool features. It is perfect for getting the word out and creating valuable back links. You can follow what I am doing by clicking here if you are a member.
Unfortunately I am seeing too many misuse it. They have a shout box which will show up top on your page and send to those that follow you. Rather than using it to let people know about the valuable content they have added too many are trying to sell through it.
You can sell quite well with the features that are available by giving people a quality article with a call to action in it. Much better to tell them about the article and let the content sell for you.
Then they have added the ability to “write” on others “face” to start conversations. This is not the place to sell your product. Start a conversation don’t sell. This will draw people to check you out where your content will pre-sell for you.
Like the many twitter users that never take part in the conversation and just use it to post their links you don’t have the relationship to allow people to trust you.
Want me to follow you on Twitter let me see content and conversations in your time line. If it is nothing but product links I don’t follow for long.
If you are going to use any of the social media sites give to the people that follow you don’t sell to them. Take part in conversations and discussions and you will find that they work much better. Takes a bit more of that dang 4 letter word WORK but the effort will pay off for you.
