Are you adding backlinks on a regular basis?

Many of the questions I get on a regular basis here and on the monthly Q and A have to do with generating traffic.
Every one is looking for a magic button. Guess what the magic button is a 4 letter word you really don’t want to hear but I will tell you anyhow - WORK.
When is the last time you did any of these for your blog?
- Wrote an article and submitted it to various directories linking to your blog
- Commented on a related blog with a thoughtful comment and a link back to your blog
- Posted a video with your link to You Tube, Revver, et al
- Added a podcast and submitted it
- Bookmarked your content and others at Stumble Upon, Digg, et al
- Commented on others pages at MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, et al
- Posted on Twitter about your latest post
- Use Facebook and added your RSS feed
- Added your RSS feed to a Squidoo lens, Hub page, Wet Paint, et al
If all you are doing is posting to your blog once a week and wondering why no one stops by guess what?
Spend a few minutes each day doing just one thing on the list above and you will see an increase in your traffic. Do 2 or 3 and see a bigger increase in your traffic.
Stop looking for the BIG RED EASY BUTTON and do something and do it regularly.
In future articles I will be going into detail on some of these items and how if you are willing to put in just a little bit of effort in a few minutes each day you will have found the button but…
Creating the button requires - EFFORT.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.
Mike Paetzold
P.S. For these traffic posts I am implementing a 5 comment rule. I will not address any of these topics unless I have received 5 comments on this post. So if you want me to continue to add valuable tips and tricks leave your comment below.

Hi Mike
I always enjoy reading your posts, please keep them coming, I always learn something new, or get reminded of steps I forgot about
I do most of what you say on a regular basis, and I have seen my blog traffic increase daily. Theone thing I am still not sure about is Squido and Hubpages, but learning slowly.
I do stumble upon regularly and twitter, I won’t move forward until I am sure I am doing these right but a lot of my traffic is coming from Stumble Upon
Than you for so much that you do and please keep them coming

Great post, Mike!
You’ve given them lots of very solid, very important information there - a truly valuable report for those smart enough to heed your words.
Maybe we should do a teleseminar together on driving Web 2.0 Traffic to their blogs, if enough people are interested…
Congrats again - wishing you every continued success,
Doug Champigny.

I can see I need to do more with all of these …
# Added a podcast and submitted it
# Bookmarked your content and others at Stumble Upon, Digg, et al
# Commented on others pages at MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, et al
# Use Facebook and added your RSS feed
# Added your RSS feed to a Squidoo lens, Hub page, Wet Paint, et al
Mike, can you point me towards more information on all of these?
I’m assuming these methods would work just as well to drive traffic to a static website?
Thanks

No Magic Button. Check. Work is key. Check.
But of all the things that are truly functional, can never have enough viable strategies and points of view.
2 More comments needed to get some more imput going…. He did ask, in a survey, what topics people wanted to hear about….
Thanks, Mike.

Always learn from your posting. I do pretty good with 2 and 7, but obviously have a lot more to do. I think #1 is my next step.
Cheers!

Nice post!
Some times you forget the things that really work. I particularly like the reminder about Twitter. You should Twitter after every post.
Thanks

Those are great and solid tips. Thank you.
I haven’t really used social bookmarking sites and sites like MyBlogLog before (not even sure what they’re called, blog communities?) but now that I’ve started to, I see a sure increase in my traffic.

I use most of these techniques. I especially like having my blog RSS going directly to Twitter and Facebook. I’ve gotten a lot of new readers from these sites.
I also get traffic for forums in my niche.
I do hope you will expand on these points and add more. I would like to know what works for others.

Mike,
This is the start of a great series of emails.
I know you are a master at tracking and would like to see an article that explains how to track which of these methods is working best.
Thanks again for imparting some of your vast blogging expertise with us.
