Integrating social media – Make your blog add links automagically
One of the easiest ways to generate backlinks to your blog is through the use of various social media. The best part is that most of these will allow you to make it happen automagically.
Yes I know that automagically isn’t a word but it does create an accurate description of what happens using social media.
For example you can automate and show your updates on Twitter, Facebook and Friend Feed quite easily.
I like things that happen automagically when I do what I normally do.
Create a blog post and have it show up on your Twitter page right after you add it. Add your blog feed into your Facebook account and it shows there too. Friend Feed works the same. There are others but those are the big 3 that I like to use.
The leverage in setting these things up once is the key. I know I would not necessarily log in to each of these services and add the information manually. I should as it would create extra links and be another way for people to find my content but lets face it, with out setting it up to be automagically done it would not happen most of the time.
There are quite a few ways you can do this.
To integrate Twitter there are a variety of plugins that will automate this. I use Tweet My Blog but there are quite a few others that you can use just do a search for Twitter plugins.
On Facebook you can add your RSS feed to import to your notes.
On Friend Feed you can add numerous feeds into your profile to draw in the content.
So there are 3 ways to integrate social media with your blog to generate more back links automagically. (Yes I know I have a thing about that word
)

Hi, Mike! Automation IS awesome, isn’t it?
The only ones I’d add to your list are MyBlogLog and LinkedIn – both are high traffic…

I like the things that you and Doug have mentioned. It is amazing how using some of that automagic you mention can really help out. And the best part I like is just setting it up onc and having it all done at one time.

Good idea Mike. Making it easier for us to tell others about our new blog posts will only help to increase traffic.
One question though, can you on a per post basis tell the services not to alert the systems of a new post? I can see that sometimes depending on the blog, you might not want to always use that feature.

Not easily because the items are set to be automatic and you would have to manually turn them off.

It makes sense to set out as many lines as possible to fish for traffic. These are great tips. Need to get my facebook RSS Feed set up.
