Using your feed as a signature
By Mike | August 30, 2008

Just found a neat site that I am testing out - Feedsr.us. See the sample below.

feedsr.us - RSS-Feeds als Signatur
This links directly to my marketing blog. It changes the titles as I post new items to my blog.
It took me less than 5 minutes to create it and gives you the code in regular html and billboard code (what most forums use).
The steps were quite easy.
- Confirm your email
- Put in your blog’s feed
- Copy and paste the code where you want your banner to show.
That’s all you need to do and the banner will change automatically each time you update your blog. Now one caveat it only updates a few times a day so there will be a delay before your latest post shows on the banner.
Be interesting to see how well this does in forums where I am active to draw additional readers.
As always your questions and comments are welcomed.

Hi Mike,
Have you tried the Headline Animator at Feedburner.com? You can create multiple animated Gifs for your RSS feeds.
It works similarly to what you show, and Feedburner.com is tested and reliable.

@John Dilbeck -Haven’t tried it but does it continue to update or do you need to redo it each time?

@John Dilbeck - John I went over and looked at it. Seems to work well but…
I like the advantage of people being able to get the html and the bb code. Now for you adn I that probably isn’t a big thing but for a lot of my readers bb code can be Greek. Just chack any forum for how many questions there are about how to use it.
I also like showing multiple headlines at once over animated headlines cycling through. Just my opinion though.

Hi Mike,
I dream in HTML, but still have trouble with BBcode now and then, so I think that’s a valid concern.
However, once someone learns it, it’s just one more milestone on the road to online success that they have accomplished. We all had to get past that at some point.
I assume by now that you have found that the Feedburner Headline Animator graphics automatically update.
I kind of like the animated headlines, but I can appreciate your preference for multiple headlines showing.
At one point, before Google acquired Feedburner, I experimented with building my own automatically updating graphics using perl and some graphics libraries I found. I did it because I wanted the graphics in a size that Feedburner didn’t offer. I got it working, but it was a real pain, and I never deployed it except on a couple of test sites.
Once I felt comfortable that Feedburner would continue to be around, I tied my wagon to their horses, so to speak.
I’m finding that I don’t use Headline Animator nearly as much as I used to, however. Don’t really know why.
Thanks for bringing these neat things to our attention, Mike.
Act on your dream!
